Three Tongan Scouts take part in the 22nd World Scout Jamboree

In a rare opportunity, three Tongan Scouts have set their foot in Rinkaby, Sweden to be part of the 22nd World Scout Jamboree adventure, as part of the UK contingent, from 27th July to 7 August 2011. Tonga is a branch association of The Scout Association (UK).
The three fortunate high school students are Tevita Taufaloa, Russell Makihele and Lakei Folau who received an sponsorship from The Scout Association (UK) and will be part of the United Kingdom contingent at the Jamboree. Before flying to Sweden, the three had an opportunity of meeting Tongan Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano in a simple ceremony held at the Prime Minister's Office in Nuku'alofa on 20th July. As we recall, Tongan Scouts have not been in any recent world Scout Jamboree lately, and surely, this opportunity will be a major story for them, and these three Scouts will have a lot to tell their colleagues when they return home from Sweden.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister presented the Silver Wolf Award, the highest Scouting award of The Scout Association (UK) to Tonga Scouts Association (TSA) Chief Commissioner Iteni Helu for 32 years of significant service to Scouting. Iteni said he was honored to be the first Tongan to receive the highest Scout award.
Wearing the Silver Wolf medal, suspended from a dark green and yellow neck ribbon, Iteni added, he will continue to be a Scout throughout his life in whatever capacity. “It is a commitment which I have carried out since I was younger, as a civil servant, and up to this time as TSA Chief Commissioner.”
Lord Tu'ivakano commended Iteni for his good work in TSA which plays an important role in shaping young people become responsible individuals and eventually become future effective leaders.
