Learning good things through Scouting

From being children on the street, today, they are now Scouts learning a lot of good things which are useful for life.
These are the 30 children under the Ticket to Life troop situated in Kemayoran, a subdistrict of Central Jakarta, Indonesia.
Since the troop started in April 2011, every week children gathered together for scout activities that test their training and leadership skills. During these troop meetings, National Coordinator Septembri Yanti reported that children were all eager to learn about knotting, reading compass and maps, signaling, fire, cooking, songs and skits, and first aid. Septembri shared that creative games helped a lot in creating friendly atmosphere, leading children to be more open and friendly to one another.
Aside from troop meetings, playing games and lectures, they have also engaged the children in entrepreneurship activities, like sewing recyclable materials. Septembri explained that with this kind of activity, not only they will be equipped with business skills and sense but how to be responsible in saving their own money.
Unit Leader Yulita reported that since the troop started, she witnessed a great deal of improvement on the children’s behaviour, which their parents also recognized.
To bring more street children to Scouting, the troop had its investiture ceremony last June, welcoming 26 new members comprised of boys and girls.
